Opa!

Quirky and quaint , Tarpon Springs, Florida pulls you into the bygone culture of sponge fishing…

while feeding your soul and body with its fifty-five miles of waterfront historical areas.

There is a lovely mix of old…

like Hella’s Restaurant and Bakery…

and the highly recommended greek fries and gyro at The Limani on the docks. The flavors are legit and bring back savory memories.

All within walking distance of newer distilleries and breweries beckoning with the sounds of live music.

Tarpon Springs Yacht Club was not open when we wandered by but the tarpon sculpture outlining the fleet was impressive.

Walking through the historical neighborhood along N. Spring Boulevard, lined with Victorian homes, there is a sense of pride. It must be a difficult balancing act between the touristy sponge docks and neighborhoods filled with families who give this town its character.

Tarpon Springs is worthy of a long weekend stay. Keep in mind their First Friday nights filled with food and entertainment to kick off your visit. There is also the Jolley Trolley offering transportation to Clearwater Beach, and even St. Pete’s with a trolley change in Clearwater. We did not try this but see the convenience for those visiting by boat.

Thanks for following along.
